- John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon - An annual event in which teams with up to 14 dogs race up the North Shore Trail. Two races. The mid-distance race is 150 miles, from Duluth to Sawbill. The 400-mile marathon goes from Duluth to Grand Portage. Held in early February.

- Northshore Inline Marathon - Following the same scenic course Grandma's marathoners have run along for the past 23 years, more than 2,500 inline skaters will test their endurance in this annual speedskating event. Held in mid-September.
