- Catholic Encyclopedia - Bl. Richard Thirkeld, English priest, missionary, served as St. Margaret Clitherow's confessor. He was arrested while visiting a Catholic in prison, convicted of reconciling the queen's subjects with the Catholic Church, and martyred in 1583.
