- Astro-1 Observatory - The Astro-1 Observatory was carried aboard the space shuttle Columbia on December 2-11, 1990. The instruments included three coaligned Ultraviolet (UV) telescopes [Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope (HUT); Wisconsin Ultraviolet Photopolarimeter Experiment (WUPPE); and the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UIT)] and an independent pointing X-ray telescope [Broad Band X-Ray Telescope (BBXRT)]. The Astro-1 Observatory yielded unique data on a wide variety of astrophysical topics ranging from the solar system to galaxies, quasars, and cosmology.
