  • George Clinton - Encyclopedia Americana - In 1804 he was elected vice president under Thomas Jefferson. Failing in his presidential ambitions in 1808, he accepted the second spot again under James Madison, whom he openly despised. He died in Washington, D.C., on April 20, 1812.
